You Are What You See: The Mirror of Consciousness
There’s a beautiful and unsettling idea I keep returning to: what we perceive can tell us something about ourselves.
When you look at me—really look—you bring your own experiences to what you see. In that sense, an encounter can feel like a mirror.
Let that sink in.
For me, this is a spiritual metaphor. A strong reaction may invite curiosity about my own experience, without proving that everything in the world is a reflection of me.
We’ve been taught to draw lines:
That’s my body.
That’s your opinion.
That’s their fault.
What if a judgement sometimes reveals an expectation we have not examined? What if affection helps us recognise something we value? Those questions can open a conversation without erasing the differences between people.
The seer brings a perspective to what is seen.
So what do you do with this idea?
You start with curiosity.
Why did that situation bother me so much?
Why am I drawn to this person, or repelled by that one?
What part of me have I forgotten or rejected?
You turn your gaze inward to understand your part in an encounter. Other people’s choices and the circumstances around you still matter.
And then—when you’re ready—you make room for more than one interpretation.
A spiritual conversation can explore the stories, assumptions and hopes you bring to an encounter. It does not require treating a painful experience as something you created or a lesson you deserved.
As your perspective changes, you may notice different possibilities for how to respond.
So next time you find yourself judging, loving, fearing, admiring—there may be a question worth sitting with. What am I bringing to this moment?
A reaction can be a doorway into understanding yourself, without becoming the whole explanation for what happened. A carefully vetted practitioner matched to your perspective can explore those moments with you one-to-one — with room for curiosity, boundaries and your own reading of the world.

Match with spiritual practitioners.
